HNK2 is officially opened - A new cultural landmark for Zagreb and Croatia

Zagreb, November 4, 2025 – Hundreds of citizens, artists, and distinguished guests gathered last night for the grand opening of HNK2 in Zagreb. The new stage of the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) represents one of the most significant cultural infrastructure achievements in modern Croatian history. Located on Božidar Adžija Street, HNK2 was inaugurated with the program “Slava umjetnosti 2.0 (Glory to Art 2.0)”, a contemporary reinterpretation of the performance that opened the original HNK building in 1895.

Broadcast live on HTV1, the Drama, Opera, and Ballet ensembles performed excerpts from the opera “Nikola Šubić Zrinjski”, the contemporary Croatian opera “Judita”, and the ballet “Gospoda Glembajevi (The Glembays).” The Drama ensemble presented a collage of texts by great Croatian writers, poets, and playwrights, directed by Krešimir Dolenčić.

The beautiful new venue on Adžija Street is envisioned as a modern, accessible, and dynamic theatre for the 21st century — one that enables production flexibility, bold artistic experimentation, and socially relevant content.
