The Lowland Railway in Focus

Date publishedDecember 9, 2025

Opatija, 9 December 2025Leon Dolušić, Head of Operations at ENNA Transport, participated on Monday, 8 December 2025, in the Novi list conference “Kvarner 2030: Transformation and Investments” in Opatija. The conference was dedicated to projects and investments contributing to the transformation of Rijeka and Kvarner into a modern business hub.

Mr. Dolušić took part in a panel on the development of Rijeka’s transport and logistics route. It was highlighted that investments in railway infrastructure are a prerequisite for development, which also leads to temporary disruptions. Dolušić stated that, in this regard, they hold regular meetings with representatives of HŽ Infrastructure, where operational solutions are discussed to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible.

“As transport operators, we understand that today we need to sacrifice something in order to run faster and more efficiently tomorrow. There were situations in which we had to deploy additional resources to ensure goods arrived on time, but we are striving to prevent that precisely through cooperation and coordination with HŽ Infrastructure, because no one is happy when a railway line has to be closed,” said Dolušić.

The conference emphasized that investing in the railway is an absolute priority, and HŽ Infrastructure Board Member Darko Barišić and the State Secretary in the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Tomislav Mihotić, confirmed that 2033 is a realistic deadline for completing the lowland railway from Zagreb to Rijeka.
