Rijeka Gateway

Rijeka Gateway - a modern container terminal in Rijeka

Date publishedJuly 19, 2024

The Rijeka Gateway terminal is the most technologically advanced container terminal in this part of Europe. The terminal began operating in September 2025 and was officially opened in October of the same year.

ENNA Logic, together with its international partner APM Terminals (part of the Maersk Group), founded the Rijeka Gateway company in 2021 to develop, build, and operate the terminal.

In the first phase, the terminal has 400 meters of quay and an annual capacity of 650,000 TEU (standard 20-foot container). In the second phase, the quay is planned to be extended to 680 meters, which will increase capacity to 1,055,000 TEU.

The total investment exceeds €380 million.

A strong emphasis was placed on sustainability in construction. Almost all equipment at the terminal is electrified, and the electrical energy comes from renewable sources. Advanced drainage solutions have been implemented to prevent marine pollution, and controlled LED lighting reduces light pollution.

The terminal is equipped with modern infrastructure: it has four remotely operated ship-to-shore cranes (STS), 15 rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG), two rail-mounted gantry cranes (RMG), and 28 terminal tractors. All systems are connected to a single remote-controlled operations center, and the entire terminal area is linked by a private 5G network, enabling high levels of safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Through the Rijeka Gateway project, that is, the collaboration between ENNA Logic and Maersk, a logistics corridor is being established from Rijeka through Croatia to the hinterland of Eastern and Central Europe, significantly shortening and accelerating the transport of goods, thereby positioning Rijeka as an important hub on Europe’s logistics map.
