Telegram: “This railway cargo operator will replace 350 trucks a day, marking a turning point for the Croatian economy”

Spotlight on the ENNA Transport and ENNA Logic Team in Rijeka

Zagreb, 13 October 2025 - Telegram portal published a story about the ENNA team in Rijeka.

Leon Dolušić from ENNA Transport and Anamaria Jurinović from ENNA Logic explained how they prepared for cargo transport from the new Rijeka Gateway terminal, why rail is an irreplaceable pillar of sustainable logistics, and how Rijeka is becoming an essential logistics hub for this part of Europe.

Below is an excerpt from the article:

Without a strong railway, there is no strong port. This rule of modern transport, which applies to Hamburg, Antwerp, and Rotterdam, is also crucial for the development of Croatia’s largest port — Rijeka. This autumn, the Port of Rijeka celebrated the realization of the largest investment in its history — the opening of the Rijeka Gateway terminal.

It is the most advanced container terminal in this part of Europe, with a sea depth of 20 meters and a quay length of 400 meters, capable of accommodating the world’s largest container ships. But once the ships unload their containers, that cargo must be moved from the terminal as quickly as possible.

For this, rail transport is the best choice, offering far greater capacity than road transport. In the case of the Rijeka Gateway terminal (RGW), the key role in moving cargo from Rijeka to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe is played by ENNA Transport, Croatia’s first private rail freight operator.

Around 350 fewer trucks thanks to rail transport
“Each of our trains can carry 76 twenty-foot containers, while a single truck can carry only one. Since ENNA Transport plans to dispatch roughly five to seven trains per day from Rijeka, on average our trains will replace around 350 trucks daily — meaning 350 fewer trucks on the highway, the Rijeka bypass, and ultimately in the city itself,” explains Leon Dolušić, Operations Manager at ENNA Transport’s Rijeka office, responsible for all rail freight management between Rijeka and the inland.

While ENNA Transport plays a key role in connecting Rijeka with European markets, its sister logistics company ENNA Logic is a co-owner of the terminal. The coordination of rail and maritime activities is handled by ENNA Logic’s Rijeka office, led by Anamaria Jurinović.

Like her colleague Dolušić, she emphasizes that no matter how technically advanced, logistically efficient, or well-equipped a port may be, it cannot reach its full potential without strong connections to its continental hinterland.

“In a time when road transport is becoming increasingly expensive and congested, and green policies impose stricter standards, rail transport has proven to be an irreplaceable foundation of sustainable logistics,” Jurinović explains.
