Successful departure of the first train from Rijeka Gateway Terminal

Due to the closed track near Koprivnica, the train reached Budapest via Slovenia

Date publishedSeptember 17, 2025

Rijeka, September 17, 2025 – The first freight train has been successfully dispatched from the Rijeka Gateway container terminal.
The train arrived at Rijeka railway station on Saturday, September 13, from Serbia, from the ŽIT terminal, and the next day it was transferred to the RGW terminal, where cargo was unloaded and loaded onto the container ship Al Jasrah. This ship, arriving in Rijeka from the Egyptian port of Port Said as part of the Asia–Europe route, is also the first container vessel to call at the new Rijeka Gateway terminal.

After loading and unloading, the train was moved to the freight section of Rijeka station with containers destined for Budapest.
The train departed Rijeka with two locomotives, each pulling half of the train. In Lokve, the two sections were joined into a single train. This procedure is necessary due to the Rijeka–Lokve section, which has the steepest gradient in Europe, and for safety and stability, long trains are pulled in two sections.

Due to the closed track near Koprivnica, the train reached Budapest via Slovenia.

Congratulations to the colleagues at ENNA Transport on the successful dispatch of the first train from Rijeka Gateway terminal!

We wish you luck and keep up the great work!
