Geothermal Energy in Focus
Date publishedOctober 20, 2026Zagreb, 20 October 2026 – Ana Lazo, Director of Geothermal Project Development at ENNA Geo, has been elected President of the newly established Geothermal Energy Group of the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK).
The Group’s activities will focus on creating the conditions for greater use of geothermal energy in Croatia. At the electoral session of the HGK Renewable Energy Sources Association, the Work Plan for the 2026–2030 period was also presented, with a particular emphasis on removing barriers to the development of geothermal projects.
“Geothermal energy has gained a significantly stronger position within Croatia’s energy sector, and our geothermal potential is recognised beyond the country’s borders. This is the result of the intensive work and commitment of numerous stakeholders. However, despite the progress achieved, the investment climate is weakening, particularly in the area of electricity generation from geothermal sources. A stable and predictable regulatory framework, together with an appropriate support scheme for renewable energy, is essential to reignite a stronger investment cycle. I hope that, through joint initiatives and by clearly articulating the sector’s needs, the Geothermal Energy Group will contribute to the continued growth and development of geothermal energy in Croatia,” said Ana Lazo.
At the electoral session, Aljoša Pleić of Acciona Energija Global Croatia d.o.o. was elected the new President of the HGK Renewable Energy Sources Association, while Denis Čamber (KONČAR – Obnovljivi izvori d.o.o.) and Laurent Milan Sessa (Elektrana Grubišno Polje d.o.o.) were elected Vice Presidents.
The Association’s newly elected President highlighted that its work would focus on the regulatory framework, the development of the renewable energy market, future technologies and strengthening dialogue across the sector.
